Solid Ground: Kathleen Coker, Thomas Coker, Trent Harrelson, and Alan Harrelson.
Solid Ground has been steadily gaining accolades in recent years. In February 2006, we earned a top-ten finish in the SPBGMA International Band Competition, held in Nashville. Before the final scores were tallied, we lost our mandolin picker to another band, and almost as quickly picked up another great mandolin picker...and fiddler, to boot. The title cut from our latest CD was on the Powergrass Radio chart for 7 months, peaking at the No. 2 spot. We performed twice for SC-ETV’s “Bluegrass Express”, played four days at Silver Dollar City in in Branson, MO, picked up an endorsement from Black Diamond Strings, and performed twice at The White House. We learned that we were on the short list for a 2007 Grammy nomination, a potential nominee for “Best Bluegrass Album” (The Right Road). Then we learned that we were also on the 2007 Dove Awards ballot, for “Best Bluegrass Gospel Album”. Wow!
All of that was fun and exciting, but really, we just love to play good bluegrass and gospel music. We’ll take the recognition...it’s not bad for business. But some of the greatest rewards are the wonderful comments from people who spend their time in our audience.
Solid Ground is enjoying our 13th year traveling, singing, picking and grinning. We are always appreciative of the people who come to our shows, buy our CDs, and support us in prayer. Our goal is to provide an uplifting experience for our audience, regardless of the venue. Solid Ground audiences have a good time. They usually laugh. They occasionally cry. But they always are blessed and uplifted.
